Four Themed Commander Decks

One of the standout offerings in this release is the Commander product line, featuring four decks themed around different Final Fantasy titles:

  • Final Fantasy VI
  • Final Fantasy VII
  • Final Fantasy X
  • Final Fantasy XIV

Each deck includes a full 100-card preconstructed Commander deck designed to be ready to play right out of the box. For collectors, Collector's Edition versions of each deck will also be available. These upgraded versions include special surge foil treatments applied to every card in the deck.

New Mechanics

Magic players can expect fresh gameplay with the introduction of new mechanics tailored to reflect Final Fantasy’s systems and style. One confirmed mechanic is called Tiered.

The Tiered mechanic lets players cast spells that increase in power and effect depending on how much mana is paid, capturing the familiar feel of spell progression in Final Fantasy games. This design allows a single card to reflect multiple versions of the same spell in one clean mechanic.

Artwork and Final Fantasy Collaboration

A huge part of what makes this crossover exciting is the artwork. Wizards of the Coast has worked with renowned Final Fantasy artists, including:

  • Yoshitaka Amano
  • Tetsuya Nomura

These artists have helped shape the visual identity of Final Fantasy for decades, and their involvement ensures that the set feels true to the series’ legacy. The card art features detailed illustrations, familiar character designs, and special treatments that showcase beloved moments from across the franchise.

Players can expect multiple card variants, including borderless cards, full-art lands, and foil treatments to appeal to both collectors and fans of the games.

Special Events and Promotions

To celebrate the launch, Wizards of the Coast is organizing a series of events that will run throughout June and July. These events offer players a chance to get involved, try out the new cards, and connect with the community.
